In 1938 before World War II, a significant method was discovered in Germany to obtain a huge nuclear energy.
Unfortunately, however, this powerful nuclear energy was put to a practical but horrible use as a destructive weapon, that is, as an atomic bomb to kill people on a massive scale.
The United States knew about the German movement to develop atomic bombs and proceeded with their own atomic bomb program by investing vast amounts of money and many scientists into the program.
As Germany seemed very likely to lose the war before long, the US set Japan as the target. On August 6, 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and then Nagasaki on August 9.
