Damage Caused by the Fires

Damage from the heat rays and the blasts were increased further by the subsequent fires. The number of partially destroyed or burned houses amounted to 5,509. The number of completely burned or destroyed houses amounted to 12,900. That is, the number of completely burned down houses accounted for about one third of the total houses in Nagasaki city.

Many people were trapped and injured under the fallen debris and waited for help, but the flames mercilessly attacked those people and increased the number of victims.
However, with the approaching flames, there were no means to help those who were crying for help, and they ended up having to be abandoned, which brought further tragedy.
