This burned lunchbox belonged to Miss Satoko Tsutsumi. She was 14 years old then, and was exposed to the atomic bomb in Iwakawa-machi, about 700 meters from the hypocenter. The rice in the lunchbox was charred by the subsequent fire after the atomic bombing. Her name and classroom number are written on the back of the smaller lunchbox on the right.
Satoko was a student of the Nagasaki Municipal Girls' High School, but she also worked in the Mitsubishi Nagasaki Young Men's Technical School in Hamaguchimachi as a mobilized student. Because an air-raid alarm sounded in the morning of August 9, she stayed home in Iwakawamachi with her grandparents. They were exposed to the atomic bomb and killed instantly. When her father was looking for their corpses, he found this lunch box.
