This is Mr. Sumiteru Taniguchi.
He was 16 years old when he was bombed. He was exposed to intense heat rays on his back while he was delivering mail by bicycle in Sumiyoshimachi, 1.8 kilometers away from the hypocenter. His skin was burned and bleeding as you can see in the photo.
He moved from one hospital to another, and spent about 3 years and 7 months in hospital while mostly lying on his stomach. He often begged to be killed due to the agony of the pain.
In spite of the recurrence of his skin cancer, he has talked about his atomic bombing experience not only in Japan but in foreign countries as well and continues to call for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
