Work Clothes

These clothes belonged to Ms. Chiyoko Egashira, who was a teacher at the Shiroyama National School at the time of the bombing. She went to work with her 14-month old baby strapped to her back. She was putting her child to sleep in the infirmary at the moment of the explosion. Ms. Egashira and her baby survived, but she lost six other members of her family.

If you look carefully, you can see that holes have been made in the center of the clothes. It is said that these holes were made by shards of glass and wood splinters which rained down on her with the blast. Ms. Egashira’s testimony can be heard in the “Appeals of the Atomic Bomb Survivors” video corner.
